So Slashdot is going to a
paid subscription model and a bunch of people are pissed off about it.
1. It is not a paid subscription model.
They are charging for the privelage of seeing their pages without ads.
2. It is not free for them to provide slashdot to the public.
They do have to pay in order to have a domain, a server, an Internet connection. Not to mention power to the server.
3. It is not the place it used to be anyway.
Example: All those assholes with -1 first posts. I don't generally read the comments because it's 90% shit, 8% whining, and 2% useful and
possibly relevant information.
All the readers of slashdot complaining about a VOLUNTARY payment to make ADVERTISEMENTS not appear need to pull their heads out of their assholes. It's not like they're asking you to pay to VIEW the site. They are asking you to pay to not see the ads on the site which you will still have full access to. I don't know if this will kill slashdot as many have predicted, but I seriously doubt it. Advertisers pay by clicks on ads. Perhaps if these whiners had taken the time to click an add or two then slashdot could have put off looking for a way to pay for their lunch for a little longer. Basic common sense dictates that to have a service like slashdot or a lemonaid stand on the side of the road you need to make at least a small profit to be able to continue to reasonably provide the service. The morons sucking up bandwidth to post shit like "Everyone but me is gay" or taunting the other readers, or bashing the editors of slashdot just to be in the "In" crowd should be banned by the editors they hate. I wonder how much bandwidth slashdot is paying for just to keep these shitheads happy?
